    How to Prepare Alfredo

Alfredo sauce is a rich and creamy sauce that is both warm and comforting. Traditional Italian alfredo sauce is made simply with parmesan cheese, butter and a bit of pasta cooking water.

Americanized versions are typically a little bit more elaborate. They will sometimes be thickened with a roux or include the addition of heavy cream, half and half or milk. They also sometimes will add in other cheeses such as asiago or romano cheese or cream cheese.

Our family favorite alfredo sauce recipe uses a roux to thicken it. There is not much cheese and it is flavored with a hint of nutmeg and black pepper. It has a perfectly creamy texture that we love in a variety of dishes.

wooden spoon mixes spices and cheese into a white sauce.

No matter how it is prepared, this creamy white sauce can be paired with many delicious side dishes to make a flavorful, memorable meal to bring the family together for a weeknight meal or special occasions.

    Pasta for Alfredo Sauce

This delicious cheesy sauce is most widely served over pasta that has been cooked to al dente. This means that the pasta is cooked through, but still has a slight bite to it.
