This easy baked brie with jam is a simple but delicious appetizer. Made with just 3 ingredients, this is one of the easiest appetizers and is perfect for entertaining and the holiday season.

partially melted wheel of brie on cutting board with jam and nuts and bread around.

I say this all the time, but when you are hosting people for dinner or during the busy holiday season, making sure you have a few simple dishes is key. Easy appetizers are a great way to do this. This baked brie recipe is the best way to make your event stress free.

Brie cheese is probably one of my favorite cheeses. It can be baked or served cold and pairs excellent with both fresh fruit or fruit preserves. Add it to charcuterie boards or served on its own. It is the perfect appetizer served with your favorite crackers or some slices of french bread.

This easy 3-ingredient appetizer would be great on Christmas eve served with Italian seafood salad and spinach fettuccine. Try it on New Year's Eve served with a nice refreshing grapefruit cocktail.

    🧀 Ingredient notes

wheel of brie cheese, jar of sour cherry preserves and bowl of roasted shelled pistachios.
    • Brie - This soft cheese is usually made from cow's milk and is creamy in texture with an earthy aroma. It has a pale ivory color with a white rind and gets its name from a region in France. It's rich, buttery flavor that is pairs wonderfully with fruit. When baked, the melty cheese has both the best flavor and texture. It can typically be found at your local grocery store and sometimes comes in goat's milk or sheep's milk varieties.
    • Jam - For this easy recipe, I used sour cherry preserves, which is my favorite jam. Any type of cherry jam or preserves are ok to use. You can also use other flavors such as strawberry, raspberry, fig, peach or apricot jam. A spicy jam or pepper jelly would be great too!
    • Nuts - Chopped pistachios bring a salty crunch to the creamy brie cheese that also pairs well with the tartness and sweetness of the jam. Different nuts such as chopped walnuts, pecans or sliced almonds could be used as well. You could even use a salty or spicy nut mix if you like!

    📋 Substitutions and variations

    • Puff Pastry - While this brie appetizer is made with no pastry crust, you can certainly do for a different variation. Thaw a frozen puff pastry sheet and place the wheel of brie in the middle. Follow the directions for scoring the cheese and adding the toppings and then fold the pastry dough up and on top of the jam and nuts. Scramble an egg with some water and brush the puff pastry before baking it. You can also use the egg mixture to help stick the ends together. Bake until the pastry is golden brown.
    • Nut Free - If you would prefer to keep this cheesy party appetizer nut free, you can simply bake the brie with the jam only.
    • Wedge - A wheel is definitely easier to bake, however, if you want to bake a wedge of brie, you can. It will only take about 5-10 minutes and won't hold it's shape like the wheel, so it's best to serve it in the container you baked it in.

    🔪 Step by step instructions

First, score the top of the wheel of brie by cutting marks with a sharp knife both horizontally and vertically across the rind. Add the jam to the top of the rind and then sprinkle with the pistachios.

wheel of brie in a baking dish topped with jam and then sprinkled with chopped pistachios.

Bake at 325˚ for 10-15 minutes until the cheese is softened. Serve the warm baked brie with crackers or french baguette slices.

    ⭐ Expert tips

    • Scoring the top of the brie will help to make sure the cheese melts slowly and doesn't explode in the oven.
    • Bake the brie in the dish just big enough for the brie so it can double as a serving dish. Using a small cast iron skillet or small oven-safe dish works perfect!
    • Gently press the sides of the warm brie with the back of a spoon to see if it has softened enough during baking.
    • If you want to transfer your baked brie to another serving plate or cheese board, let it cool for 10 minutes first.
    • Make sure you serve your baked brie with jam with a cheese knife so guests can scoop up the melty cheese onto bread or crackers.

    💭 Frequently asked questions

Can baked brie be left out?

Baked brie can be left out at room temperature for up to 2 hours, but after that it should be refrigerated to prevent harmful bacteria from forming.

Do you take the rind off brie before baking?

The brie rind is completely edible and does not need to be removed before baking it in the oven.

    ⏲️ Make ahead instructions

This easy appetizer recipe can be assembled up to 2 days ahead of time before baking. Store the prepared brie in the baking dish wrapped in plastic wrap in the refrigerator. Take the dish out 15 minutes before baking, while you preheat the oven, or add 5 minutes to the cooking time.

    🥡 Storage suggestions

Leftover baked brie with jam can be stored in an airtight container for up to a week and can be reheated in the oven, if desired.
